Biography
Carma's dance training spans three decades. She was a student for over ten years, and has been teaching dance for almost twenty years. Although she began teaching classes in high school and throughout college, she officially launched Carma’s Dance Creations in 1991.
The enrollment in her classes quadrupled in the company’s first year. As the company expanded, clients began requesting additional programs. To fill those requests, Carma’s Dance Creations changed its name to Carma’s Creations in 2000. This name change enabled the company to offer a broader spectrum of programming. These programs included: summer camps, birthday parties, themed party planning for children/adults, an inspirational product line, interactive school presentations, known as playshops, and parent/child seminars. New classes were also added to the existing dance program. These classes were: Mommy & Me, Kids in Motion, Adult Jazz Classes, and Fashion Show Production for Children.
In 2007, an Interactive Reading Program was added to the company specifically created for children in preschool through second grade. This program was designed to encourage early reading skills through playshops that are educational and entertaining. This all-in-one program integrates academics, character education, and physical education, while creatively engaging children in a fun and structured format.
Carma’s Creations has offered summer camps for 10 years. The company is licensed and insured.
Carma has also been creating poems since she was very young. When she was 14, her mom and nana encouraged her to share these poems as gifts for family and friends. She began to do so, and soon, others were requesting these gifts for their family and friends. Now 3 decades later, her husband, family and friends encouraged her to share her more recent poems through her on-line Café Press site.
Carma enjoys the parallel between choreographing a routine and creating a poem. She truly enjoys being in the "creation phase" of a poem as the words dance around in her head. When a tempo or rhythm starts to form with the words, then it's time for her to sit down and let the words “dance” onto the paper. She feels it truly is a dance of words for her creatively.
